Vaughan water damage, fire & mould restoration
If your Vaughan home is flooding, call 911 in an emergency. If you are safe, report the flooding to Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281, confirm with Alectra that power is off, and photograph the damage for insurance. Guardian then extracts the water, dries the structure and documents the loss.
Who to call in Vaughan
- Emergency: call 911.
- If you are safe: call Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 to report flooding.
- Power: do not try to shut off electricity if any water is present. Check with Alectra Utilities that power to the home has been turned off; if it has not, have an electrician turn it off.
After a flood: the City's checklist
- Photograph all damage for insurance purposes.
- Drain floodwater in the basement slowly, about one-third of the volume per day.
- Have the main electrical panel cleaned, dried and tested by a qualified electrician, and the furnace and chimney inspected by an HVAC company.
- Do not use appliances, heating, pressure or sewage systems until the electrical components have been cleaned, dried and inspected by a qualified electrician.
Vaughan back-water valve subsidy
The City of Vaughan's Back-water Valve Subsidy Installation program covers up to $750, including eligible labour, materials, permit fees and taxes, for an approved back-water valve installed by a certified plumber. Subsidies depend on available funding and are first-come, first-served. This is plumbing work, separate from restoration.
For river flood messages, the City points residents to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority's flood forecasting and warning updates.
Where Guardian fits
A plumber, the municipality or the region deals with the pipe or sewer itself. Guardian deals with what the water has already reached: we extract it, map moisture in floors and walls, run monitored drying, and keep photo and moisture records for your insurer. We also handle fire and smoke damage and mould remediation.
