Who to call in Ajax and Pickering

• Anyone in danger: call 911.
• Basement flooding or a sewer backup: report it to the Region of Durham's Works Department. After hours: 905-576-9991 or 1-800-372-1104. Durham 311 is available within the region; from outside, call 905-668-7711 or 1-800-372-1102.
• Stormwater (ditches, culverts, catch basins, storm sewers and ponds): in Pickering this is the City of Pickering's responsibility. In Ajax, the Town's general line is 905-683-4550, or use its online Report an Issue page.

Who owns which pipe

The Region of Durham is responsible for water and sanitary sewer infrastructure in the public right-of-way, up to the property line. Homeowners are responsible for repairs to sewer and water service connections on their own property. Durham's page adds that homeowners repair damage to the sanitary sewer connection within one metre of the house foundation or inside the house.
